Remy and coworkers at an eventWhen did you start working here? And B.C. (Before Conventures) — work, school?
I started at Conventures as an intern in September 2023 and have been full-time since January 2024. Before joining Conventures, I went to the College of Charleston in South Carolina, graduating in May 2023. Living in Charleston, a hub for hospitality and events, I quickly realized how interested I was in the industry. While in school, I interned with Charleston Wedding Magazine. After graduating, I worked for a wedding planner during the summer of 2023.

What piece of advice would you give someone just starting out in events? Anything you wish you’d known?
Trust the process and yourself. An event might seem overwhelming at first, but as you break it down step by step, it all starts to come together. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, and remember that challenges are part of the learning curve. Each event will teach you something new, and over time, you’ll gain the confidence and experience to handle even the most complex situations with ease.

Young RemyProudest moment working at Conventures?
My proudest moment working at Conventures was at an event in New Bedford, Massachusetts. It was the first time I truly took the lead on an event, and I spent weeks perfecting and executing an agenda that involved coordinating multiple destinations, various modes of transportation, and numerous entities invited to each stop. When the event day concluded with a cocktail reception and I saw the smiles on all the guests’ faces, I felt grateful for the experience that I gained and proud of being responsible for giving people a great day.

If you could work at any major event in the world, which one would you choose and why?
I have always loved fashion! One event I would love to work at is a New York Fashion Week show. I’d be excited to see all the planning that goes into each component of the event, from the venue and runway décor to selecting the models, managing guest lists, and, of course, showcasing the designs.

What’s something on your desk, a nearby wall, or out the window that cheers you up during the day?
The ocean view. My desk is at the front of the office, where I can see the ocean all day long! I feel so lucky to have a seat with such a great view.

Remy and coworkers at an eventIf you could hang out with any fictional character, who would you choose and why?
My favorite TV show growing up was One Tree Hill, and my favorite character was Brooke Davis. I would want to hang out with her because she is not only confident in everything she does, but also is a loyal, caring friend who is ambitious and driven, especially when it comes to her career. She evolves into a successful entrepreneur and creates her own fashion company, Clothes Over Bros.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever been given or a quote you live by?
Treat people the way you would like to be treated. I think this advice goes a long way. You never know how a small act of kindness can brighten someone’s day. Once you start treating others with kindness you will be surprised how many people treat you the same way in return.

It’s almost the holiday season! What’s your favorite dish to make or eat during the holidays?
Mashed sweet potatoes with marshmallows on Thanksgiving!

And finally, give us one of your pre-event hype up songs… please.
Any top 2010s hits! That was the best music era.
