April showers, April showers, April showers! Here’s what we were up to in April in between the raindrops and tiptoeing around the budding flowers.
Boston Marathon Expo 2019
This year’s Boston Marathon Expo again provided a “trip-to-Mecca” level experience for nearly 30,000 Boston Marathon runners as they picked-up their bib numbers and toured the latest and best in the wellness world. More than 130 exhibitors filled they Hynes Convention Center on April 12–14, and more than 80,000 runners, fans, and future-Boston-Marathoners (yes, that’s you), came through the show and were educated and engaged by the brands at play.
Beginning as the world’s first running-focused trade show in 1979, Conventures and the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) have proudly organized the Boston Marathon Expo since its inception.
With photo opportunities, product showcases, and the latest innovations in the running and wellness world, the Boston Marathon Expo is a marquee experience in a runner’s journey to becoming a Boston Marathon finisher.
It also fuels a large economic boost to the Greater Boston Area. In recent years, the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) has produced economic impact reports which estimate that the Boston Marathon injects more than $200 million into the Boston economy.

Runner’s Seminar Series Presented by John Hancock
This year’s Boston Marathon Expo again featured two days of education with the Boston Marathon Runner’s Seminar Series presented by John Hancock. Guests heard from race champions, Joan Benoit Samuelson, Meb Keflezighi, Bobbi Gibb, Amby Burfoot, and journalists from The New York Times, NBC Sports Boston, Shape magazine, and more. Area coaches and race veterans shared tips, stories, guidance that ranged from meditation to self-defense, injury prevention and course previews.
Welcome back, Stad Amsterdam and Juan Sebastian De Elcano
Two amazing vessels sailed into Boston Harbor in April. Conventures and Sail Boston welcomed the three-masted clipper Stad Amsterdam and the Spanish Royal Navy’s Juan Sebastian De Elcano back to Boston. We helped arrange their visits and the on-land movements for the vessels’ leadership. Juan Sebastian De Elcano, the four-masted top sail schooner, is the third largest Tall Ship in the world, and the the official training ship of the Spanish Navy.
Boston Architectural College Spring Gala
On April 25, Conventures helped organize the silent auction for Boston Architectural College’s Spring Gala. With more than 80 items, the 650 event attendees had plenty to bid on. All proceeds from the event fund the students’ practice-based design education. The college is committed to diversifying the field of design and educating the next generation of socially-conscious architects and designers. The Spring Gala is the largest fundraising event of the year for the college, and it brought together the design community to celebrate the college, and enjoy tastings from some of Boston’s best restaurants, bars, and breweries. Influential members of Boston’s design community enjoyed the music while house cocktails, specially-created bites, and great energy filled the space.

Also on April 25, the Conventures registration team helped welcome guests to Northeast Arc’s Evening of Changing Lives Gala and Fashion Show. Managing the guest registration, paperless silent auction, and appeal checkout, the Conventures team was equipped with suits, smiles, software, and tablets to ensure the first impression for more than 500 guests was a good one. Northeast Arc changes lives for people with disabilities—and children at risk of developing them—and their families. For decades, the organization has provided employment training, education, and supported employment opportunities for adults with disabilities. We are very proud to support this annual event.

On April 28, we stretched out, tucked in, and zenned out at Boston Children’s Hospital Yoga Reaches Out. Held at the Empower Field House at Gillette Stadium, the day-long yoga event brought together more than 1,000 yogis who enjoyed a day of strength and wellness in support of Boston Children Hospital’s life-saving good work. Conventures managed the event logistics, from check-in and volunteer deployment, to vendor support, and stage direction. We even took in a few mindful moments ourselves!
